AUSTIN, Texas — On Monday, August 11, 2025, a fatal shooting unfolded at the Target store located at 8601 Research Boulevard in North Austin, resulting in the death of three individuals and leaving the community reeling.
The Incident
- The Austin Police Department reported responding to multiple 911 calls around 2:15 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, two victims were already deceased in the parking lot, while a third succumbed to injuries at the hospital shortly thereafter. A fourth person was treated on-site for injuries unrelated to the shooting.
- The suspect—a 32-year-old white male with a known history of mental health issues—fled the scene by stealing a car, which he later crashed. He then hijacked another vehicle from a nearby dealership before law enforcement subdued him with a Taser in South Austin, approximately 20 miles from the scene.
